Overview

Working as part of the Lighting Department, the primary role of the Lighting Engineer is to assist the Head of Department (HOD) in the preparation of lighting equipment through the department within the deadlines set. All aspects of work to be carried out to the highest possible standard of safety while meeting PRG standards and client expectations. 

 

The Lighting Engineers report directly to HOD. When on site the Lighting Engineer will report to the relevant Project Manager.  

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a similar role with a good understanding of the industry.  
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or Associate degree is desirable. 
  • Experience working on large scale events in both concert and corporate environments.  
  • Good computer skills including all Microsoft Office applications. 
  • CAD, WYSIWYG and Vectorworks are an advantage. 
  • Good working knowledge of all aspects of Lighting Technology.   
  • Experience with automated fixtures and dimmers.  
  • Knowledge of lighting system configuration including DMX signal paths, patching and console operation. 
  • Good knowledge of power distribution and load calculations.  
  • Demonstrable and competent ability to working at height. 
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment. 
  • Must display a positive attitude both in the warehouse and on-site. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to cope well under pressure. 
  • Capable of working to deadlines. 
  • A good understanding of: 
  • Electrical safety at work 
  • PAT testing 
  • Safe working practices 
  • An understanding of stock control systems. 
  • Maturity to deal with people at all levels of the organisation. 
  • Methodical and analytical approach to work with good fault finding skills. 
  • Ability to learn and retain information within a reasonable time frame. 
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail. 
  • Self-motivated and able to work under own initiative as well as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the team in the preparation of equipment orders and the testing and returning of all lighting fixtures in the department.  
  • Work as part of the team in the safe delivery, set up, operation and de-rig of equipment needed for events. 
  • Identify any additional lighting equipment that may be required to ensure safe working practices. 
  • Rig, focus and operate Lighting equipment as required, interpreting the requirements from a Lighting plan. 
  • Program and operate various Lighting consoles. 
  • Ensure correct equipment entry onto the equipment rental software- Winhits,including bar codes. 
  • Guarantee the Company’s quality standards are maintained at all times.  
  • Faulty/damaged equipment to be clearly marked and HOD / Operations Manager / Service Manager notified of this at the earliest opportunity. 
  • Any anomalies, omissions or shortages should be brought to the attention of the Head of Department / Operations Director immediately. 
  • Ensure that all equipment and flight case tour labels are marked up correctly for specific jobs. 
  • Support the Head of Department with routine maintenance to ensure the equipment is kept in a good, safe and efficient working condition. 
  • Assist in the undertaking of stock cycle counts with operational departments when scheduled. 
  • Ensure the department is kept tidy and orderly at all times 
  • Keep up to date with the latest fixtures and technology within the department. 
  • Maintain effective communication with the Head of Department to ensure any issues or concerns are dealt with quickly.  
  • Ensure all Incidents and Injuries are reported immediately. 
  • Fulfill any other reasonable task required by the company. 
  • Ensure at all times confidentiality of information relating to the company or its clients, projects, or personal staff information. 
  • Operate within the current Health and Safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment, reporting any Health and Safety issues to the Head of Department.  
  • Ensure the Company’s quality standards are maintained at all times. 
  • Advise your manager if you believe you are unable to meet your obligations for OH&S due to time or resource restrictions. 
  • Ensure the Company’s policies, rules, procedures and obligations are observed in carrying out the above duties.
